LUCKNOW: The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) may convert the Mahanagar Kalyan Mandap into a Covid hospital within 20 days. The decision will be taken in the next three working days, said LMC official.

Mayor Sanyukta Bhatia, on Saturday, inspected the Kalyan Mandaps of Mahanagar, Aurangabad Khalsa near Ashiana and Jiamau for finalising the proposal for Covid hospital.

However, because of a better location, parking facility, safety point of view and the total covered area, the Mahanagar Kalyan Mandap is tipped to be finalised for the Covid care hospital.

According to Nagar Swasthya Adhikari Dr SK Rawat, “We will follow any orders coming from the municipal commissioner. Mahanagar Kalyan Mandap was inspected by the mayor along with higher officials of LMC on Saturday. The only thing which can go against Mahanagar Kalyan Mandap is the power supply. Presently it runs on the power supply from its generators but a separate transformer will be required for starting a setup like a hospital, along with giant generators. However, these things can be managed if approval for the hospital is given.”

Mayor Sanyukta Bhatia said, “Mahanagar Kalyan Mandap may prove to be a good place for starting a small facility of 50 beds for Covid care. Our staff can come up with oxygen supply lines within ten days and not only this, the LMC can arrange doctors, nurses and other support staff from the health department. The final decision in this regard would be taken on Tuesday.”

She said, “With one facility coming up in the building of LMC the staff and corporators will not have to turn towards other hospitals for the treatment of Covid-19.”
