UNICEF SENDS 1,500 OXYGEN CONCENTRATORS TO UP TO FIGHT SECOND COVID WAVE
LUCKNOW : The United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) has sent critical lifesaving supplies, including 1,500 oxygen concentrators, diagnostic tests and other equipment to help Uttar Pradesh fight the deadly second wave of the pandemic.
“Unicef is supporting the state government in its fight against COVID-19 through risk communication campaigns, community engagement support and providing critical supplies.” said Ruth L Leano, the UP chief of Unicef.
Along with the oxygen concentrators which have been distributed across 75 districts, Unicef has also supplied 11 Covid testing machines installed at Lucknow, NOIDA, Agra and Varanasi.
“Unicef continues to provide support to state and local authorities for short-term Covid-response planning and monitoring. While providing urgent support to the healthcare system, UNICEF has also been assisting the state government in ensuring critical services for the most vulnerable children continue functioning” said Dr Kanupriya Singhal, the health specialist, Unicef, UP.
Unicef is also providing technical support to the government and partners to help 12.3 million children in 17 states continue learning from home.
Through its work on Risk Communication and Communication Engagement (RCCE), Unicef has also consistently worked to counter misinformation and promote Covid appropriate behaviour (wearing masks, physical distancing, and handwashing), using social media listening and audience insights.
