Daily cases come down below 18K, Meerut only district with over 1k cases

After a gap of a month, fresh daily cases in Uttar Pradesh came below 18,0000 marks on Thursday.

With 17,775 cases reporting on the day, the state’s Covid tally reached 15,80,980 while 281 fresh fatalities took death toll to 16,646.

On April 13, the state had breached 18K mark with 18,021 fresh cases reporting in a day.

Meerut was the only district to report over 1,000 fresh cases on Thursday while remaining 74 districts had cases below 1,000.

Meerut reported 1,072 fresh cases followed by Lucknow 856, Varanasi 772, Gorakhpur 775, Gautam Budha Nagar 747, Gaziabad 374, Moradabad 504, Prayagraj 240, Jhansi 354, Kanpur 288, Agra 190, Deoria 314, according to the state health department data.

Of the total 280 deaths, Lucknow reported maximum 35 deaths, Kanpur and Ghaziabad 16 each, Gautam Budha Nagar 11, Ghazipur 10, Jhansi 10, Prayagraj 5, Bahraich 12, Mahoba 10, Meerut 15, Varanasi 6.

As many as 21 districts in the state reported zero deaths.

“With fall in fresh cases and more recoveries than new cases the recovery rate is also rising. The recovery rate at present is 86% in the state,” said Amit Mohan Prasad, additional chief secretary, medical health.

“In the past 24 hours, 2,53,997 Covid samples were tested, including over 1,09,000 RT PCR samples. Till now 4,39,06,533 samples have been tested in Uttar Pradesh,” said Prasad.

“I want to thank all health workers, including those in private sector and other field staff that it was because of their effort that cases have come down. Of the total active cases under treatment, 1,45,801 are in home isolation,” said Prasad.

There are 2,04,658 active cases under treatment at present. In all, 13,59,676 patients have recovered till now.
