- HT Correspondent letters@htlive.com

Alleging that the state government was causing price rise and sponsoring black marketing amid the pandemic, Samajwadi Party (SP) national president Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday claimed that people of the state were conveying to the BJP government that they would not repeat their mistake of voting it to power again next year. The assembly polls will be held in Uttar Pradesh in 2022.

“In this time of pandemic, black marketing and price rise are going on under government protection. The BJP government is presenting fake data to hide the gory reality. Peoples’ lives have become hellish. BJP government can’t see all the deaths that have been happening. The shameless government is engaged in sullying the image of those opposition leaders who have been attempting to give a wake-up call to the government in slumber,” Akhilesh said in a statement.

Referring to the frequent attacks by the UP ministers Sidharth Nath Singh, also the government spokesman, and Suresh Khanna on him, he said: “BJP government spokesperson has only one agenda of making absurd allegations against Samajwadi Party’s suggestions. In a democracy, the opposition’s role is as important as that of the ruling party. If an opposition party is pointing out flaws and giving suggestions, vendetta-filled behaviour and spreading misinformation against the opposition party is an anti-democratic behaviour by the ruling party.”

“Black marking of oxygen and drugs is going on, rise in prices of essential commodities is going on and all this is happening under the government protection. Liquor syndicates in nexus with government and administration are doing illicit liquor trade and people are dying. In last four year, the illegal liquor trade has flourished phenomenally in the state,” the former chief minister alleged.

He also said when there was oxygen crisis and people were dying for the lack of it, the BJP government had raised goods and services tax on oxygen cylinders by 18%.
