LUCKNOW: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Bairia assembly segment of Ballia, Surendra Singh, has embarrassed his party yet again. Days after claiming that the state government’s policy of trusting bureaucrats for managing Covid-19 had flopped, the BJP lawmaker has now alleged corruption in wheat purchase and held the bureaucrats responsible for the situation.

Bairia MLA’s queries have come at a time when the state government has claimed record wheat purchase this year.

“We have purchased 21.45 lakh metric tonnes of wheat from 4,20,948 farmers who have been paid Rs 2933.34 crore and Rs 4237.50 crore would be credited directly to their accounts very soon,” commissioner, food and civil supplies, Manish Chauhan had said on May 12.

However, the BJP MLA was upset with the officials of wheat purchase centres.

“Sabki niyat bhrasht hai (all are corrupt),” he told the local media in Ballia without clearing what he meant by the statement.

“Wheat purchase centres are worst hit,” he added claiming that at several places the wheat purchase centres were nonfunctional.

Several Bharatiya Janata Party lawmakers in UP have embarrassed the ruling party of late, raising issues of non-availability of hospital beds, inadequate medical facilities, faulty Covid testing in the districts.

Some of them have even claimed difficulty in getting treatment for their relatives.

A few also wrote letters claiming that officials at the local level do not listen to the public representatives.

A Bharatiya Janata Party lawmaker even claimed that he wouldn’t speak against the government for he feared he would be booked for sedition.
