Yoga, family support help nonagenarian beat Covid
LUCKNOW: Bhagwati Prasad Pandey, 90, of Rajajipuram overcame the Sars-CoV-2 infection by taking medicines regularly in home isolation, doing yoga and other exercises as his family looked after him with devotion after he tested positive last month.
After Pandey developed mild fever, his family got his Covid sample collected from home without any delay. In the meantime, on a doctor’s advice the family started all prescribed medicines. On April 20, Pandey report came positive.
After that, the family opted for home quarantine and made all necessary medical arrangements at the home itself, including an oxygen cylinder for emergency use.
“We did not tell our father that he had tested positive. But as too many medicines were being given to him to control fever and prevent chest infection, he guessed something was wrong,” said Sanjeev Pandey, Bhagwati Prasad’s son.
“Why you are giving so many medicines to me to control fever?,” Prasad asked one of his sons. As the medicines continued, the nonagenarian realised that there was something more than fever for which he was being treated. Prasad, however, did not share his apprehensions with his family.
“It was after my father refused to take medicines that we had to reveal to him that he had tested positive. We also told him that he would be hospitalised if he refused to take medicines,” said Sanjeev.
After realising the seriousness of the issue, my father started taking medicines, he added. All his family members, including his grandchildren did their bit to keep him in good spirit. “I continued my daily morning routine of yoga and other exercises. All medical arrangements and medicines made me realise it was something more than a fever,” said Prasad. Medication continued for a fortnight under supervision of Dr YC Sharma after which he tested negative. The first thing which Prasad demanded after testing negative was ‘dahi’ (curd) and jalebi.
