Farmers will dislodge BJP govt in 2022: Akhilesh

LUCKNOW : Attacking the UP government over farming-related issues, Samajwadi Party (SP) national president Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday said “distressed” farmers will dislodge the BJP government in the next year assembly polls.

In a statement, Akhilesh alleged that the anti-farmers policies and administrative mismanagement had hit the farmers hard and at the same time the government had been misleading farmers.

“The government first increased DAP (a chemical fertiliser) prices twice and then did the drama of giving subsidy to farmers on it. On the top of it, black marketing of the fertilisers is troublesome for the farmers. Black marketing is going on unabated under the double engine governments (BJP governments at the centre and in UP),” the statement quoted him as saying.

“The anti-farmers policy of the government also caused voices of dissent within the ruling party and many in the party have started raising their voices. But neither the ministers incharges of various districts nor the officers in the government are concerned about the farmers,” he said in the statement his party issued.

“The BJP government is constantly engaged in conspiracies to end the autonomy and freedom that the farmers have and that is why it not only ignores farmers’ interests but also does one or the other thing to hurt them. The government raised diesel prices. Farmers are not getting appropriate prices for their produce,” he said.

“On one hand, the BJP government says it has given freedom, through three new central farm laws, to the farmers allowing them to sell their produce wherever they wish to but with the rising diesel prices, the transportation costs too are rising on the other. The government is hell-bent on destroying the farmers,” he alleged.

Akhilesh said the standard 50 kg bag of urea had been modified to 45 kg bag and the prices of the bag had also been raised. A DAP bag now cost Rs 2,400, he claimed.

“Earlier the fertiliser companies were directly selling the fertiliser at the rate of Rs 1900 to farmers. And now the government is doing the drama of giving subsidy to farmers (on the enhanced rates),” Akhilesh said.

“In the name of kisan samriddhi yojna, this government is first robbing the farmers and then doing the drama of giving them subsidies and doles. The government increased power tariffs for farmers earlier and now again the government has engaged with the power companies to increase tariff by 12%,” Akhilesh alleged.
