TWO COPS SUSPENDED IN UNNAO AFTER TOP OFFICER’S PS ATTEMPTS SUICIDE IN OFFICE
LUCKNOW: An inspector and investigating officer (IO) of a police station in Unnao were suspended on Tuesday, a day after the personal secretary of an additional chief secretary of Uttar Pradesh (UP) government attempted suicide inside his office in Bapu Bhawan and blamed policemen for harassing him.
In a handwritten suicide note, the 52-year-old secretary had accused cops of harassing him and his family in case related to his sister and her in-laws after which inspector general (IG), Lucknow zone, Lakshmi Singh visited the crime spot and directed superintendent of police (SP) Unnao to take action against the cops.
“Inspector of Auras police station Har Prasad Ahirwar and sub-inspector Tamizuddin who is investigating officer in the case have been suspended for dereliction of duty,” said Avinash Pandey, SP, Unnao.
Two cases related to the sister of the personal secretary and her in-laws are registered at the police station and the personal secretary was not happy with the progress of the investigation.
The personal secretary had attempted suicide by using his licensed revolver from his eighth-floor office at Bapu Bhawan at around 1.30 pm on Monday.
Around 1.45 pm, the other staffers present in the office after hearing the gun shot had rushed to the personal secretary’s office and found it locked from inside.
After breaking in, the staffers rushed the injured personal secretary to the hospital where his condition is still stated to be critical.
Police had recovered a revolver from the personal secretary’s office which has since been cordoned off for forensic investigation.
Bapu Bhawan is part of a secretariat complex that house offices of government departments. It is one of the most heavily secured buildings in the heart of the city and the incident has raised questions on the security arrangements here.
