Lucknow shooter Sanskar to participat­e in Jr world championsh­ip

LUCKNOW : Young shooter Sanskar Hawelia didn’t miss his training for a day even when the country was going through the lockdown in the first phase of COVID19. He chose to create his own small range at his house here in Lucknow and continued to hit the bulls-eye with perfection.

His hard work has paid him rich dividends as Sanskar has been selected in the Indian team for the upcoming Junior World Shooting Championsh­ips to be held in Lima (Peru) from September 27 to October 10.

Sanskar will participat­e in this championsh­ip in 50m rifle 3 positions and 50m rifle prone open category. Sanskar intends to give his best performanc­e in this championsh­ip for which he is practicing at Delhi’s Karni Singh Shooting Range now days.

Although Sanskar wants to give new dimensions to his performanc­e, but for this he needs high level training abroad. Sanskar said that training abroad can improve his performanc­e further. In fact, Sanskar’s dream is to make a strong claim for the Paris Olympics20­24 in future.

According to Sanskar’s mother Shilpi Hawelia, Germany has a better place for his event, but the cost of training there is Rs 20 million annually. “We are looking for a sponsor for him,” she said.

In the trials held in Delhi last month, Sanskar secured second position in the 50m rifle three position thus making it to the Indian team as per the grading system issued by the NRAI. On Wednesday, the Karate Associatio­n of UP and Uttar Pradesh Rowing Associatio­n announced an incentive of Rs 25,000 each to Sanskar

Prior to this, Sanskar won a gold, a silver and a bronze medal in the 10m rifle event while participat­ing in the InterState 20-20 Shooting Championsh­ips under the European Grand P Series at The Hague (Netherland­s) in February 2020.

DAGAR, KIDWAI WIN

Arundhati Singh Dagar and Faiz Kidwai emerged victorious in the girls and boys sections, respective­ly of the All India Under-14 Tennis Championsh­ip Series, at the LPG Tennis Academy here on Wednesday. Dagar beat Vaishnavi Lodhi 6-7, 7-5 (10-8), whereas Kidwai defeated Abhiduya Singh 6-0, 6-1.

CRICKET TRIALS

Cricket Associatio­n Lucknow is going to conduct trials for Under-25 age group players from September 8 to 10, whereas the trials for Under-16 age group players will take place from September 4 to 6. More details can be had from CAL office in Gomti Nagar.
