AGRA : Samajwadi Party (SP) national president Akhilesh Yadav on Monday said people in Uttar Pradesh were looking for a change that, as per him, would be “historic” after the 2022 UP assembly polls.

He also ruled out alliance with big political parties and said his party would forge alliances with only small outfits. The former CM expressed these views while talking to reporters at the residence of one of his of his party workers in Agra. He was in the Taj city to meet the kin of party leaders and workers who passed away during the second wave of the Covid pandemic.

Targeting the state government on the farmers’ issue, Akhilesh said the nation would not forgive the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for “insulting” farmers. “Farmers provide us food. How can the BJP insult such farmers,” he asked claiming that his party had always stood with farmers. Akhilesh visited the houses of the late Shiv Kumar Rathore who had the status of a minister in the SP regime and former city unit chief Raisuddin, besides others.

“There would be no candidate of Samajwadi Party from Jaswant Nagar assembly seat (in the next year assembly polls),” he said when asked about alliance with his uncle Shivpal Yadav who is an MLA from Jaswant Nagar in Etawah district. “There would be adequate respect for all his (Shivpal’s) colleagues,” Akhilesh said.

Expressing concern over several deaths because of viral fever (dengue), Akhilesh urged the state government to save the lives of children.
