FOUNDATION WORK OF RAM TEMPLE NEARING COMPLETION: RAI

-

LUCKNOW : The foundation work of Ram temple in Ayodhya is almost complete as construction of last layer of the temple’s foundation is in its final stage. Champat Rai, general secretary of Sri Ram Janmabhoomi Tirath Kshetra Trust, on Thursday said 47 layers of the Ram temple’s foundation had been laid.

The 48th and the last layer was being laid and this work will be completed in the next one to two days. Thereafter, raft of the temple’s foundation will be laid and will be completed in the next two months, Rai added.

A raft foundation is used when the soil is weak. It helps distribute the weight of the building over entire area of the building. This helps reduce stress on the soil.

In the foundation work, 47 layers of roller compacted cement (RCC) of one feet width have been laid. The work began from 14 metres below the surface at the sanctum sanctorum of the temple in April this year.

The foundation is 107 feet above sea level and pebbles of Banda, coarse sand, fly ash and asbestos have been used. Each layer has been compressed with two kinds of rollers- simple roller and vibrating roller.

“The vibrating roller generates vibrations to make the temple’s foundation strong and ensure maximum compression. After each rolling process, the 300 mm layer was compressed to around 250 mm,” said Rai.

Larsen and Toubro is carrying out the construction work of Ram temple. The Tata Consulting Engineers is working as project management consultant.
