CM unveils first prototype train for Kanpur, Agra Metro projects
GORAKHPUR: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath unveiled the first prototype train of the Kanpur and Agra Metro projects on Saturday via video conferencing. He said four cities of the state were currently using metro trains while Agra and Kanpur would have the service soon. Kanpur and Agra Metro are expected to start operations from November 30. The detailed project reports (DPRs) for five more cities — Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Jhansi and Meerut — are in the final stages. “Metro is the need of the hour and it will prove to be a milestone in the development of Agra and Kanpur. It is a matter of time when five more cities will also have this safe, convenient and affordable mode of public transportation,” he said. “Lucknow, Ghaziabad, Noida and Greater Noida are currently using the metro. We are working quickly on the Kanpur and Agra Metro. I hope that by November 30, we will be able to dedicate it to the nation and have Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurate it. Efforts are underway to bring metro trains to Gorakhpur, Prayagraj, Jhansi, Varanasi and Meerut too. Detailed Project Reports (DPR) for these have been either sent or are in its final stages,” Adityanath said.
“I feel happy that Uttar Pradesh, the state with the largest population in the country, is operating this excellent facility of public transport in four cities. The UP Metro Rail Corporation is working on a war footing to provide the Metro service in Kanpur and Agra,” he said.
“Congratulations to the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) and Alstom Transport India Limited for this. This is a matter of pride for us,” said Yogi Adityanath. He added that while earlier India used to stay dependent on western companies for transportation projects, it was now advancing in fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a self-reliant India. He said, “We have seen how UP Metro Rail Corporation worked during the Covid crisis. They worked tirelessly and even Covid could not be an obstacle for them.”
