Khurshid says UP lacks industries, blames BJP for inflation
VARANASI: Senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid targeted union minister Smriti Irani and said instead of engaging in dual politics, she should focus on discharging her duties as the Lok Sabha MP from Amethi.
Khurshid was reacting to queries from newspersons who sought his response on Smriti’s statement that the family which won Amethi for five decades didn’t serve people of the region. He was in the city to seek people’s opinion for the Congress’s ‘dialogue for manifesto’ programme.
“Earlier it was said that all development was being done in Amethi alone and now it is said that no work was done in Amethi. This is dual politics and Smriti should instead focus on discharging her responsibilities as the Lok Sabha MP of Amethi,” Khurshid said.
“There is neither any change any smart development in Banaras. The city lacks basic amenities. I couldn’t find any such work there that a Prime Minister’s constituency must reflect,” he said.
“Congress party MPs have done more work than the work done by Modi ji as a PM,” he said while blaming the BJP governments for rising inflation, unemployment. On the developments in Punjab Congress, he said that whatever “Captain sahib” had said whatever he had to say, and the Congress leadership has taken note of his statements.
“Congress leadership would now ensure that the issue is resolved,” Khurshid said. The Congress leader also denied reports of Lalitesh Pati Tripathi, the great-grandson of former Uttar Pradesh (UP) chief minisnor ter Kamalapati Tripathi, quitting the party. “He has only resigned from his post. The party leadership is in contact with him,” Khurshid said.
“People of the state would send those engaged in politics of hatred home because they want freedom from such forces,” he said. “UP lacks Industries and if we get a chance, industrial development will be ensured. The Congress always did politics of inclusion,” he said.
