LUCKNOW: After the Thursday rains, the helpline of the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) received 140 complaints of dead animals, about 42 electric poles either falling down or bending and 134 complaints of trees or their big branches falling by in different city areas.

“Despite challenging conditions LMC staff worked overnight after heavy rains on Thursday and Friday. They attended to all the complaints registered on helpline and many more such complaints were attended at the zonal level. Removing 140 dead animals was one big challenge as any delay in removing dead bodies would have increased chances of epidemic spread,” said Lucknow Municipal Commissioner Ajay Dwivedi. “LMC has flushed out water from all the low-lying areas but areas like Faizaullah ganj are still facing problem of water logging and we have installed pumps to flush out water,” he said.

“The next target of LMC is to clean the areas where water logging was reported to eliminate any chances of spread of epidemic,” he said. “LMC has started using 85 tractormounted anti larvae spray system, 30 fogging machines , 55 hand-held anti larvae machines, 156 cycle mounted fogging machines,” he said. Dwivedi has suspended assistant engineer Rizwan Haider Zaidi when he found pumps of Indira Nagar, Shakti Nagar dysfunctional which resulted in water logging. Executive engineer Amarnath has been given adverse entry and chief engineer (civil) has been served a show cause notice.
