KANPUR : A 10-year-old boy was killed and three others, including two boys and a woman, were injured when a goods train derailed on dedicated freight corridor near Etawah district on Monday evening, police said. Over 50 goats were feared trapped under the wreckage and stone pebbles it carried, they added.

Additional superintendent of police, Etawah (rural), Omveer Singh, said parents had informed the police about the three children missing after the mishap. All of them were keeping an eye on the goats grazing in an open field close to the railway tracks, he said.

The train was heading to Kanpur from Ghaziabad when 20 wagons jumped the tracks.

The sound was heard several kilometres far away, said eyewitnesses. Officials said a rescue operation was going on and the body of the deceased identified as Sachin, 10, of Jaitpura had been found. The two injured boys, one of them identified as Bobby, were shifted to Saifai medical institute.

Apart from them, a woman was also injured in the incident and was being treated at a local hospital. “The track is being cleared and a release train has been called from Tundla,” said officials.

This is a second major mishap in the last one month on dedicated freight corridor near Etawah. Earlier, another goods train went off the tracks near Jaswant Nagar. The dedicated freight corridor corporation had ordered an inquiry into the fresh derailment, said officials.
