HAVE DONE SOME FILMS FOR MONEY: RANVIR SHOREY

Normally, the script, role and director influence Ranvir to say yes to projects

In his career spanning nearly two decades, actor Ranvir Shorey has worked in diverse movie genres performing a variety of roles to entertain the audience. From Khosla Ka Ghosla (2006), Ek Tha Tiger (2012) and No Smoking (2007) to Sonchiriya (2019), Shorey has successfully managed his way across both commercial as well as critically- acclaimed categories.

For the 49-year-old, the criteria for picking up a project has remained the same throughout these years. “The script, my role in it, and the director, in that order is what that matter to me,” he explains. However, Shorey also admits that there have been instances when he has compromised on this. “I have not always stuck with this. There have been occasions where I had to take up work purely for the money, or I did the job purely for the relationship I had with that person or (for their) friendship. There have been a few (such films). By and large, this has been the criteria for me always,” he maintains.

He adds, “I have not done too many over-the-top commercial projects. In the few (films) that I have done... there also you will find that there was a kind of alternative streak [to the role I played or in the movie’s plot]. They were not run-ofthe-mill stuff.”

Shorey also believes in working on one project at a time. He says, “I am uncomplicated, not just professionally, but even in my personal life. I never do two projects at the same time. But I don’t believe in that whole thing of actors saying it takes two-three months to get into a character, then months to get out of it. It doesn’t work with me!”
