ndia’s first secretary to UN, Sneha Dubey’s piercing rebuttal to comments made by Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan, at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), has won the hearts of Indians world over. With the video clipping of her speech going viral, the Indian Foreign Service officer has emerged as an inspiration for the country’s youth.

College students hail the young diplomat. “In a country where women are often thought to not have political views, Dubey has proved that women too can pass a strong counterpoint. She is the voice of the youth, who often feel alienated from politics. She shows how a young woman can fight against social prejudice and inequalities,” says Gitoshri Sen, a BA Psychology (Hons) student at Delhi University.

Dubey’s coherent speech has also kindled pride in several UPSC aspirants, who say they too want to make an impact like this young civil servant.

“What better epitome of strength can the world get on such an important platform, where women empowerment is all up to shut the false claims of Pakistan,” asks Jasika Pawar, a UPSC aspirant.

Sejal Chopra, another college student feels “proud at how young minds like Dubey are voicing their concerns for our country”.

“She has done a great job at the UN platform,” says Danish, a research scholar at JNU’s School of International Studies. He adds, “Our Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, is also our alumna. Deliberations on international relations are part of our course and training, and aid in becoming a diplomat. Being a student of the same college, I feel proud.”
