UPOA seeks upkeep of shooting range, link road
LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh Olympic Association (UPOA) on Monday expressed unhappiness with the poor condition of the road leading to an international standard shooting range in the Nadarganj area of Lucknow.
UPOA secretary general Anandeshwar Pandey, in a letter to chief minister Yogi Adityanath, said the state capital has the country’s most luxurious and state-of-the-art shooting range, but it’s in dire straits due to the lack of proper care.
“Not only this, the way to reach the shooting range from Kanpur Road is very bad. I request you to ask the concerned authorities to improve the condition of this international level shooting range, so
that its existence could be saved,” he wrote.
Pandey, who had gone to inaugurate the State Shooting Championship on Sunday, was reacting to the news titled “Shooters face hurdle of “potholes” to reach range” by Hindustan Times in its Monday’s edition.
“There are so many potholes on the road from Kanpur Road to the shooting range that it is difficult to walk on it. Walking on this road to reach the shooting range is equivalent to conquering a fort. Many vehicles were stuck on the way. The shooters reached the shooting range by walking on the muddy road.”
He also wrote that more than Rs 20 crore had been spent on this shooting range, but still it was in bad shape. “This international standard shooting range should be properly maintained so that national and international level shooters can train here,” he said, adding, “For the better care of the range, it should be handed over to the UP Sports Directorate or to Uttar Pradesh Olympic Association on lease.”
