Kanpur realtor case linked to extortion racket, says Akhilesh

LUCKNOW: Samajwadi Party (SP) national president Akhilesh Yadav on Friday attacked the Uttar Pradesh government over the death of a Kanpur realtor after a police raid on a hotel in Gorakhpur on September 27 night.

The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister claimed that the case was linked to an extortion racket. Yadav made the attack through a tweet and then at a press conference at the SP office in Lucknow.

After realtor Manish Gupta’s death, the authorities suspended six accused policemen and booked them for murder, but they are still on the run.

In a tweet in Hindi, Akhilesh said: “Till now, none of the accused policemen has been arrested in the case. This strongly indicates that they did not escape themselves, but their escape was orchestrated. Actually, someone is not saving the accused but saving himself as strings are linked to the vasooli tantra’(extortion racket). All this zero-tolerance (of UP government against crime and corruption) is also a BJP rhetoric.”

Later, at the press conference, Yadav referred to alleged incidents of violence during the panchayat elections held earlier this year.

MORE SUPPORT FOR SP

On the occasion, Jan Parivartan Dal president JP Dhangarh announced the merger of his party with the Samajwadi Party while Gondwana Gantantra Party’s national president Tuleshwar Singh also announced support to the SP.

Others who joined the SP on Friday were former Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MP from Balrampur and three-time MLA Rizwan Zaheer and former BSP MLA RP Kushwaha.
