Sardar Udham Singh’s name is written in golden letters in the history of the Indian independence struggle. It was this braveheart who avenged the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Amazon Prime Video is bringing to the audience the story of the late revolutionary freedom fighter around Dussehra, on October 16, through the film Sardar Udham, directed by Shoojit Sircar.

The trailer launch was a mega event in the presence of actor Vicky Kaushal, director Shoojit Sircar, producers Ronnie Lahiri and Sheel Kumar, music composer Shantanu Moitra, cinematographer Abhik Mukhopadhyay and director of marketing at Amazon Prime Video, Sushant Sreeram. Since its launch, the film’s trailer has been garnering rave reviews.

What drew everyone’s attention was Kaushal’s grand on-stage entry in a black vintage car. The theme of the event featured elements from the streets of London from the 1940s, to coincide with that of the film.

Talking about the movie, Sreeram shared that the streaming service is looking forward to bringing Sardar Udham to its audience. “At Prime Video, we are always looking for stories that our customers will love, that will delight, entertain and inspire them. After the phenomenal success of Gulabo Sitabo (2020), we are excited to be working with Shoojit and the Rising Sun Films team once again,” says Sreeram.

He adds, “Sardar Udham is one such story - a tale of courage, valour and sacrifice of a revolutionary, against the backdrop of a nation’s struggle for freedom. All these nuances have been brought to life with a layered narrative and powerful performances in our latest Amazon Original movie, Sardar Udham .We look forward to bringing this compelling watch to our audiences in over 240 countries and territories, this Dussehra,” he said.

There’s an interesting reason behind Sircar’s decision to make this film. He shares, “My inspiration to make this film came when I visited the Jallianwala Bagh in 1999. I have always wondered why the story of Sardar Udham Singh, who travelled across the world in his fight for the country, isn’t widely known, and why his ultimate sacrifice has gone unnoticed? It is quite unfortunate and that’s why I felt that it is an important story to be shown to the world. I have waited for 21 years to make this film and I can’t wait to show it to audiences across the globe.”

Kaushal plays the titular role, and he’s sure audiences across the world will enjoy watching Sardar Udham on Amazon Prime Video. “Sardar Udham Singh’s name is etched in our history, but his life isn’t widely documented. I have grown up listening to his stories from my grandparents, and hence, could always feel this connect with him. While it is an honour for me to step into his shoes, it has been quite challenging to play the role, too,” says Kaushal, adding, “Shoojit da and Ronnie wanted to share this story for the longest time and I feel so fortunate to be part of it. I am delighted that Sardar Udham will be watched by audience across the globe, thanks to the reach of Amazon Prime Video. It is a story that deserves to be shared, far and wide.”
