PRAYAGRAJ: Known to be a man of few words till now, Swami Balbeer Giri, after being anointed as the new Mahant (head) of Baghambari Gaddi Math, on Tuesday remembered his Guru whose sudden and untimely death propelled him into the limelight and top post of this Math.

“I was pained by the sudden demise of my Guru (Narendra Giri) because of which I had refrained from talking to media, but I want to say that with the country’s top investigating agency probing the death, the truth behind it would come out, sooner or later,” said the 35-year-old seer.

On being asked how he planned to carry out day-to-day functions at this prestigious and influential Math, Balbeer Giri, in his first interaction with media, said, “I am myself a Digambar sanyasi and have been following the Sanatan parampara (practices) for the past 18-20 years. I will put my decisions in front of my senior seers in the Akhara, and if they don’t agree, I will seek their guidance. If I am right, they

would bless my decisions.”

In days before the anointment ceremony, the secretary of the Niranjani Akhara, Mahant Ravindra Puri, had informed that a five-member ‘supervisory board’ would look after the working of the Math, which is part of Niranjani Akhara.

For all the big decisions, like selling or purchase of land etc, Balbeer Giri will have to get approval from a five-member administrative body. Besides Ravindra Puri, the other members would be Mahant Dinesh Giri, Mahant Omkar Giri, Keshav Puri and Mahant Har Govind Puri—all senior seers of the monastic order.

Balbeer said, “I have sought the blessings of all the seers and have requested them to pray for the peace of the soul of my Guru so that the Math functions normally, as it used to earlier.”
