ICS to facilitate career counsellin­g in 2,500 UP secondary schools

LUCKNOW: Deputy chief minister Dinesh Sharma, inaugurate­d Institute for Career Studies’ ‘Project Lakshya – UP government’, in Lok Bhawan, Lucknow, on Friday. The project envisages facilitati­ng career counsellin­g and guidance to students studying in the 2,500 secondary schools across the 75 districts of UP.Under this joint initiative of the Department of Secondary Education, UP government and ICS, 2,500 government school teachers will be trained to provide career guidance to students. They will make use of the comprehens­ive ICS Career GPS app in the process.

Founder-director, Institute for Career Studies (ICS), Amrita Dass, presented a letter of commitment to the deputy CM on the occasion. Sharma lauded ICS’s initiative.

Speaking at the launch, Dass said, “This is happening for the first time in the history of the country – that career counsellin­g and guidance is being taken to lakhs of students. I am truly grateful to the government of UP for making this possible.

“Project Lakshya will empower the youth of the state by leading them to ‘careers by choice, not chance’. This will truly help Uttar Pradesh become ‘Uttam’ Pradesh.”

Additional chief secretary, secondary education, UP, Aradhana Shukla, spearheade­d the event, which showcased the various CSR partnershi­ps of the department. Also present were prominent educationi­sts, teachers and students.

The event was streamed live on ICS social media platforms to students, parents and educators across India and other countries.

As many as 370 principals from all the districts of UP virtually attended the ICS orientatio­n session on career guidance and the launch of Project Lakshya.
