Ajay Mishra Teni attends meeting of party lawmakers from Avadh region in Lucknow
LUCKNOW: Facing flak over the Lakhimpur Kheri incident, the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) on Friday directed the party MPs and MLAs to ensure that there was no repeat of such incidents in their respective constituencies, a party leader familiar with the matter said.
The party lawmakers were also told to refrain from making controversial statements.
This was conveyed to them at meeting of BJP MPs and MLAs from the constituencies located in the Avadh region in central Uttar Pradesh.
The meeting was held at 5 Kalidas Marg, the official residence of chief minister Yogi Adityanath, on Friday evening to discuss the strategy for the 2022 UP assembly election.
Yogi Adityanath, who was in Gorakhpur earlier in the day, arrived in the state capital in the evening to attend the meeting.
Union minister of state for home affairs Ajay Kumar Mishra Teni, who represents Lakhimpur Kheri in the Lok Sabha, too attended the meeting.
His son is the main accused in the Lakhimpur Kheri case.
Besides chief minister Yogi Adityanath, BJP state unit president Swatantra Dev Singh and state general secretary (organization) Sunil Bansal addressed the party MPs and MLAs.
The top BJP state leaders told the MPs and MLAs to be vigilant, check the repeat of Lakhimpur Kheri-like incidents and avoid controversial statements that might give more ammunition to the Opposition, said the party leader familiar with the developments at the meeting.
The lawmakers were told to stay in their respective constituencies, meet the people and make them aware of schemes launched by the BJP government at the centre and in the state. The lawmakers were also told to counter the Opposition tirade against the BJP government from public platforms or through social media, the BJP leader said.
The chief minister collected feedback from the MPs and MLAs about development and welfare schemes in their constituencies. The lawmakers were told to ensure that all the projects were completed on schedule.
They were also asked to mobilise their resources for the assembly election as the opposition parties were organising public meetings and yatras across the state.
The BJP units from the village to the state level should work like a well-oiled machine to ensure the party’s victory in the 2022 assembly election, they were told.
The MPs and MLAs were also asked to strengthen the organisation at the booth level, motivate the party workers by entrusting them with important tasks in the organisation.
All the organisational works should be completed on priority by October-end, they were told, according to the BJP leader.
