Lucknow shooters excel in shotgun championsh­ip

LUCKNOW : Team of Lucknow won the gold medal in trap event and silver medal and bronze medal in double trap in the 44th UP State Shotgun Championsh­ip, at the Nandini Nagar Shooting Range in Gonda on Friday.

In the double trap senior category, Taha Saeed Jaffrey scored 30 points, Vikram Rai scored 27 points and Amit Agarwal scored 17 points and pushed Lakhimpur team to the second spot. Similarly, in the junior category, Yuvraj Singh qualified for pre-nationals by scoring 27 points in double trap event and won bronze medal and qualified for pre-nationals by securing 25 points in trap event.

In the junior category itself, Omar Jia of Lucknow won silver medal in double trap event and scored 29 points and also qualified for pre-nationals by scoring 30 points in single trap event by securing silver medal.

AWARDED

Internatio­nal shooter Sanskar Hawelia from Uttar Pradesh, who left his indelible mark at the junior level, was on Friday awarded with the Yuva Khel Ratna Award-2021 for his outstandin­g contributi­on to sports. Sanskar is currently with the Indian team at the World Junior Shooting Championsh­ips being held in Lima (Peru) from September 27 to October 10.

UNDER-14 FOOTBALL

Chowk Stadium Green defeated Sky 11 by 2-1 to collect full points in the Under-14 football League, at the Chowk Stadium here on Friday. Ahmed and Zaid scored for the winners, whereas Roshan netted for the Sky 11. In the second match, New Boys defeated Chowk Stadium Yellow 2-0, whereas in the third match, Mamta Eleven defeated Chowk Stadium Red by 3-0.

RAILWAYS SOCCER

Mechanical Mavericks, Security Hunters, Account Wizards and Traction Tigers won matches in NER’s Football Tournament. Mavericks beat Operating Avengers 2-0, Wizards defeated Personal Warriors 2-1, Security Hunters beat Engineerin­g Devils 4-0, whereas Traction Tigers defeated Account Wizards 3-2.
