Almas Shaukat proves consistenc­y with willow

LUCKNOW : Both In white ball as well as in red ball cricket, Kanpur’s batter Almas Shaukat has been doing well for Uttar Pradesh fr the last many years. Last season, he “missed” the team flight for the 50-over tournament due to a last-minute glitch of his COVI19 report, but this time he wants to make use of all opportunit­ies.

On Sunday, Shaukat struck 27-ball 47 with the help of six fours and two sixes to ensure Team B’s emphatic sevenwicke­t win against Team E in a league match of the Challenger Trophy T20, at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur.

Making full use of the home turf, Shaukat and Hardeep Singh (38, 30b, 4x4, 2x6) stitched together 44-run for the second wicket to take the side home in 14.4 overs while chasing 119. Badal Singh made 17.

Kritagya Singh remained the star performer for Team E, which managed 118/6 after being asked to bat first. Singh’s 49-ball 51 was studded with two fours and four sixes. Harsh Tyagi made 27-ball 23 with the help of two fours.

UP SHUTTLERS SHINE

Two youngsters from Uttar Pradesh Tushar Gagneja and Ayush Agarwal on Sunday bagged their internatio­nal title in badminton, winning under-19 boys doubles title at the BWF Junior World Ranking Tournament in Croatia.

Lucknow’s Gagneja and Agarwal from Agra, who after quitting from the Uttar Pradesh Badminton Academy, have been training at the Hyderabad’s Suchitra Academy for the last three months, defeated the second seeded duo of Yhan Barbieri and Loan Peillet of France 21-16, 21-17 in straight games in 36 minutes.

UPKKA ELECTION

The Uttar Pradesh Kho-Kho Associatio­n (UPKKA) would be holding its election on October 27, at the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium here.

In all 19 office-bearers would be elected and their nomination­s would be done on October 18 and 19, states a release. Retired Judge of Allahabad High Court Justice DP Singh has been named returning officer, whereas UP’s joint director sports, Anil Kumar Banoudha would be acting as his deputy.

EASY WIN

Signal Towers defeated Account Wizards 2-0 in the last league match of Inter Department­al Football Tournament of the North Eastern Railway here on Sunday.

Chandrashe­khar scored in the 17th and 26th minutes, respective­ly. On Monday, Mechanical Mavericks will take on Traction Tigers in the first semi-final at 3:30 p.m, whereas Commercial Challenger­s meet Security Hunters in the second semi-final at 4.30 p.m.
