Bangladesh­i robbers’ gang busted in Lko; three held after brief encounter

LUCKNOW: A joint team of Chinhat police and surveillan­ce cell on Monday arrested three Bangladesh­i nationals, who were members of a gang involved in committing loot and robbery in houses along the railway tracks in different states. The accused were arrested after a brief encounter in which two of the accused sustained injuries in their legs.

Deputy commission­er of police (east) Sanjiv Suman said, “Our team has arrested three Bangladesh­i nationals-- Sheikh Rubel, 26, Alam, 27, and Rabiul, 23,-- for their involvemen­t in several incidents of robbery and loot in houses along the railway lines in Lucknow and other cities.”

During interrogat­ion, the arrested persons revealed that they were members of a gang that entered West Bengal in

India from Bangladesh. They first used to conduct recce along railway tracks and then commit the crimes. Once a house is marked, they reach the spot via train, commit loot and flee from the spot by jumping on trains. “The gang used the networks of trains and rail tracks to conduct recce, reach the marked location and then to escape from the spot after committing the crime,” said the officer.

After robbing their desired house, the accused used to share the loot and travel back to West Bengal from where they used to smuggle the looted items to their families in Bangladesh. In case the loot amount runs into several lakhs, the accused used to return back to Bangladesh and lay low for some time before returning back to commit another loot.

Police have identified eight other members of the gang and teams have been formed to arrest them.
