NCC cadets begin sailing-cumboat pulling expedition
LUCKNOW : As many as 60 NCC cadets – 35 boys and 25 girls – have on Monday embarked upon a sailing-cum-boat pulling expedition on river Ganga from Kanpur’s Dhori Ghat to Prayagraj’s Saraswati Ghat.
The expedition, conducted by 3 (UP) Naval Unit, NCC group headquarters Lucknow under the aegis of NCC Directorate (UP), was flagged off by Brigadier
Ravi Kapoor, group commander, NCC Group HQ, Lucknow from Kanpur.
The expedition is routing through six districts -- Kanpur, Unnao, Fatehpur, Raebareli, Pratapgarh and Prayagraj-- covering an approximate distance of 270 kms and aims at spreading nationally relevant social messages of Covid vaccination and Clean Ganga Mission.
It is led by commanding officer captain (IN) Navendu Saxena along with executive officer Lt commander Ashwani K Singh, one associate NCC officer, 10 combatant naval sailors and trained civilian officials from 3 (UP) Naval Unit NCC.
Two DK Whalers (used by Indian Navy), one assault boat and two rescue boats will be part of the expedition.
In the past, such expeditions were conducted from Prayagraj to Varanasi. But this year it is being conducted from Kanpur to Prayagraj to encourage cadets of Lucknow NCC.
As part of preparations, cadets had practiced on Gomti River for last two months and also underwent an exclusive camp in September 2021.
The flagging-in ceremony, upon culmination of the expedition, is expected to be conducted on October 27 at Prayagraj.
Brigadier Kapoor appreciated the efforts of the team and wished the cadets good luck for a safe and successful expedition.
