Pay ₹155 toll for one-way trip from Mrt to Delhi on e-way

-

The free ride on 74kmlong Meerut-Delhi Expressway (MDE) for the past one year ended on Friday. Now on, commuters will have to pay for their trip on the MDE through cashless toll plaza, where toll will be deducted through FASTag.

The MDE was announced open for the commuters in March last year, but the toll collection didn’t start because of the repair of some parts of the road, which got damaged due to heavy rains during the monsoon last year. Besides, the work on the railway overbridge at Chipiyana in Ghaziabad district was also underway.

Initially, ₹140 was kept as one side toll fee, but it has been revised, and now the new toll fee will be ₹155 for one side and return journey within 24 hours, the toll will be ₹230. The toll fee will vary for different vehicles.

The MDE connects Meerut to Delhi, and commuters can reach Delhi from Meerut in 45 minutes with an allowed speed of 100km/ h for cars and other light vehicles. The toll plaza is cashless, and the toll will be deducted through FASTag.

“We have installed cameras to check over speeding. Toll tax wouldn’t have to be paid during entry on Delhi-Meerut Expressway. Rather, the toll will be deducted at the exit point,” said an employee at the toll plaza.

The toll will be charged at the six entry/exit points located at the expressway — Sarai Kale Khan, Indirapuram, Dundahera (Vijay Nagar), Dasna, Rasoolpur Sikrod, Bhojpur with the main toll plaza located at Kashi in Meerut.

A commuter Vipul Singhal, who travelled on the MDE on Friday said that vehicles had to wait for 10 to 15 minutes at the toll plaza. “It was the first day, and hope that toll collection company would introduce better facilities and reduce the waiting time,” Singhal said, who is also president of Meerut Hotel and Restaurants Association. Meanwhile, two and three-wheelers, which are banned on MDE, were also seen plying on the Expressway.
