LUCKNOW: Defence minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday said many countries, including Pakistan, had praised India’s foreign policy and its Covid outreach and vaccination programmes that were carried out under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Previously India wasn’t taken seriously at the global stage. Now, under PM Modi, when India speaks, the world listens carefully. The country’s global standing has improved tremendously over the years since Modi became the country’s PM. Now, almost all countries, including Pakistan, acknowledge India’s might,” the defence minister said while participating in a ‘Holi Milan’ function at DAV College here.

“During the Covid crisis, India quickly developed not one, but two Covid vaccines, which have also been exported to other countries. For the first time in Independent India’s history, Indian exports crossed the Rs 400 billion-dollar mark. The PM has made it clear that if we don’t have any technology, we will get it in our country, and then use it to develop products and export them. Now, we don’t rely on imports, but prefer exports,” he added.

Rajnath, who mingled freely with the cadres, showering flower petals on them, at the function, said since 1988 no political party had 100 MPs in the Rajya Sabha.

“Now, under PM Modi, the BJP has accomplished this feat too. Along with Lok Sabha, the BJP now has majority in the Rajya Sabha also.

The BJP is using this political clout to help the poor and the needy by coming up with schemes for them. Almost all our schemes are pro-poor,” Rajnath said.

Deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak praised Rajnath and said under him Lucknow would become the best city.

“Previously, Lucknow had one water works, now process has been initiated for the city’s second water works. Earlier, there used to be one sewage treatment plant. Now, another sewage treatment plant is coming up near 1090 crossing,” Pathak said.

Earlier, Rajnath met delegations, party cadres and senior leaders, including Lucknow mayor Sanyukta Bhatia, minister of state for minorities Danish Azad Ansari, among others, at his residence.
