LUCKNOW: The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) on Sunday demolished the three-story illegal house of former police inspector Jagat Narayan Singh in Chinhat area here.

Singh is currently in jail in connection with the murder case of Kanpur-based businessman Manish Gupta.

Singh was station house officer (SHO) of Ramgarh Tal police station in Gorakhpur, when Manish Gupta was killed by cops during an alleged checking drive at Krishna Palace Hotel there on September 28, 2021.

According to the Lucknow Development Authority, Singh’s house in Devraji Vihar, Satrikh Road in Chinhat was constructed ‘illegally’ without an approved map.

On Sunday afternoon, a team of Lucknow Development Authority officials reached Singh’s residence and demolished it with the help of bulldozers.

A large contingent of police and senior officials of the development authority were present on the spot.

No family member of Singh was present in the house and it was empty when the demolition took place.

Akshay Tripathi, vice chairman of LDA, said all illegal constructions across the city were being identified and action taken as per law.

It may be pointed out that a police team from the Ramgarh Tal police station carried out a raid at the Krishna Palace Hotel on September 28, 2021.

The police team comprised Jagat Narain Singh, sub-inspectors Akshay Kumar Mishra, Vijay Yadav and Rahul Dubey and constables Kamlesh Singh Yadav and Prashant Kumar.

During the checking drive, Manish Gupta was allegedly assaulted by cops and he succumbed to his injuries.

Later, all six cops were arrested by the special investigating team (SIT) which was probing the incident. At present, all of them are in prison.

In another drive, LDA demolished an illegal building in Saadatganj.

In addition to this, the development authority demolished one more illegal building on Campbell Road that was being constructed without an approved map.
