Lalganj SDM booked for tehsil employee’s murder

PRAYAGRAJ : A tehsil employee, who was undergoing treatment at the district hospital after being allegedly thrashed by Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Lalganj, died on Saturday night. The Nayab Nazir at tehsil, Sunil Kumar Sharma, 58, was admitted to the district hospital on Saturday.

An FIR for murder was lodged against the SDM Gyanendra Vikram after tehsil employees created a ruckus demanding strict action against him on Saturday.

A resident of the government colony at Lalganj Tehsil, Sharma allegedly had an argument with SDM on Wednesday. On Thursday, Sharma reached the office and informed his colleagues and lawyers about the incident.

A video of Sharma also went viral in which he is seen showing his injuries to his colleagues while making allegation­s against the SDM. On Thursday evening, Sharma was admitted to the trauma centre at Lalganj and was later shifted to the district hospital when his condition deteriorat­ed. Late on Saturday night, Sharma died.

A large number of tehsil employees reached the hospital and started protesting and demanding the arrest of the SDM. Senior police officials also reached the spot to pacify the protestors. Late in the night, Pratapgarh district magistrate Nitin Bansal issued orders to attach SDM-Lalganj to district headquarte­rs. The DM said that a magisteria­l enquiry has been ordered into the incident.

An FIR has also been lodged in this connection and the body has been sent for autopsy, he added.

Nayab Nazir’s son Sudhir informed the police that SDM Vikram arrived at their residence on March 30, with some home guards. After an argument, they assaulted his father with sticks.

Meanwhile, another video of the victim also went viral on social media in which SDM Vikram can be seen helping the doctors in the treatment of Sunil Sharma at the district hospital.

It is alleged that SDM entered the hospital from the rear gate and entered the ward where Sharma was admitted. In the video, the accused SDM can be seen putting pressure on Sharma’s chest in an effort to revive him. SDM Vikram is now at large, with different unions of the employees demanding his immediate arrest.
