LUCKNOW: The first lot of copper strips from Jharkhand has reached Ayodhya for joining stone slabs that will be used in construction of the Ram temple’s main structure.

As many as 35,360 copper strips weighing a total of 13.90 ton reached Ayodhya last week from the Indian Copper Complex, Ghatsila, Jharkhand. It is a unit of Hindustan Copper Limited.

According to Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, the copper strips will join the stone slabs.

Engineers are testing these strips. Each strip is 256 mm long, 32 mm in width and weighs 360 grams.

According to the Trust, copper is a rust-free metal and around 70,000 copper strips will be used in the temple construction work.

Three ton copper bolts will be used to connect the copper strips. The copper bolts will be procured from Hindustan Copper Limited’s Mumbai plant.

The Trust has already made it clear that no iron or steel will be used in construction of the Ram temple.

At present, Ram temple’s plinth is being laid. The 21-feethigh plinth will have seven layers. One layer has been laid.

Plinth is the lowest part of a building and it works as a base for any structure. It is in the form of a rectangular block or slab.

According to Trust member Dr Anil Mishra, the plinth work will be completed by May-June. Thereafter, the main structure will be constructed.

The Trust has already set a deadline to enthrone the idol of Ram Lalla (infant Lord Ram) in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple in Ayodhya by December 2023 to allow devotees to worship the deity.
