THE NECKLACE HAD BEEN STOLEN FROM THE HOUSE OF A POLICEMAN VINOD KUMAR

AGRA: A necklace, which was recovered from arrested thieves, went missing from the storeroom of Jagdispura police station of Agra, leaving the cops in a fix. The Jagdishpura police have informed the court here that such a necklace is not in the ‘malkhana’ (store-room) of the police station at present.

The necklace was stolen from the house of a policeman Vinod Kumar, presently deployed in Mathura district. Kumar was residing in Agra when on January 13, 2018 a theft took place in his house.

A report was lodged and the Jagdishpura police arrested the thieves after three months. They recovered the stolen goods, including the necklace owned by Kumar’s wife.

Vinod Kumar moved an application in court for release of the necklace, worth around Rs 1.5 lakh. The court sought a report from Jagdishpura police which informed that the necklace was not at the police station and so could not be released.

“There was a theft in ‘malkhana’ of Jagdishpura police station in October 2021 and certain items besides cash were stolen. The charge of ‘malkhana’ was handed over to another policeman. The necklace was found missing and so the court was informed,” said deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Archana Singh.

“We have tabulated the goods remaining after the October 2021 theft but we are yet to account for the goods stolen which might include the necklace. The matter is being investigated” said Singh.

It may be recollected that a theft had taken place in malkhana of Jagdishpura police station in October 2021 where Arun Valmiki, a sweeper was suspected but died in police custody and matter became a political issue.
