BAREILLY (UP): The Bareilly district administration on Thursday razed a petrol pump, built by Samajwadi Party MLA Shazil Islam Ansari, allegedly because it did not have the “required clearance”.

The development comes days after the legislator was booked over a “provocative remark” against Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath.

According to an official familiar with the matter, Bareilly Development Authority (BDA) vice chairman Jogendra Singh said the fuel station at Parsakheda on the Bareilly-Delhi National Highway was built without the required clearance. “The notice in this regard has already been issued but no reply was received,” he said.

As per news agency PTI, Ansari refused to comment on the matter, saying that he was “very troubled”.

On April 1, an FIR was registered against Ansari at Bareilly’s Baradari police station after a video clip purportedly showed Ansari saying: “if (Yogi) says something against us, then our guns will not emit smoke but will fire bullets.”

The Bhojipura MLA had questioned the veracity of the video clip, claiming that his remarks were doctored.

Based on a complaint filed by Anuj Verma, district in charge of Hindu Yuva Vahini, police had registered an FIR against Ansari, SP’s district vice president Sanjeev Kumar Saxena, along with others, under Indian Penal Code sections sections 504 (disturbing peace), 506 (threatening) and 153A (making provocative statements with intent to incite riots).

During the UP elections campaign, the SP repeatedly referred to Adityanath as “bulldozer baba”. The BJP too invoked the “bulldozer”, saying it will continue to be used against illegal property occupied by criminals.
