Local boy Sanidhya in line of a golden double in AITA tourney
LUCKNOW : Unseeded and local challenger Sanidhya Dwivedi on Thursday booked his date with two medals, winning in the semi-finals of both under-16 and under-14 categories of the AITA Championship Series, at the LPG Tennis Academy here.
Dwivedi first defeated Nihaar Kumar of Karnataka 6-2, 6-1 in under-16, before shocking top seed Aditya Acharya from Odisha 6-1, 6-4 in a semi-final match of the under-14 category.
Karnataka’s Abhishek Subramanian defeated second seed Saatvik Ashwin of Tamil Nadu 7-5 (6), 6-2 in other semi-final of under-16, before defeating local challenger Rishi Yadav 6-4, 6-2 to set up final clash with Dwivedi in under-14 too.
Shatakshika Sahay remained the only one from Uttar Pradesh to make it to the under-16 girls singles final, defeating Odisha’s Krishna raj 6-0, 6-0. Now, she will take on West Bengal’s Aleena Farid, who defeated Vaishnavi Chauhan of Maharashtra 6-4, 6-4 in other semi-final. Farid also made it to the under-14 singles final, defeating Madhya Pradesh’s Vibha Khadka 6-3, 6-4.
JNT CUP IN KANPUR
The 10th JNT Under-12 Cricket League under the auspices of the JNT Sports Welfare Foundation would be played in the first week of May, at the Kanpur South Ground in Kanpur. Organising secretary, Amit Mishra said that tournament was being revived after a gap of two years due to pandemic COVID19. “Players from others districts too are allowed to play in the event so they must complete the registration formality at jntorganisation.com before May 1,’ Mishra states.
SPORTS COLLEGE
The preliminary trials to select inmates for the state government-run three sports colleges will be held from April 6 at various centres across the state.
