LMC gears up for epidemic control

LUCKNOW: The Lucknow Municipal Corporatio­n has identified more than 70 areas of the city which are prone to the spread of epidemics each year. “A massive sanitation drive has been launched all over the city to ensure that no one fall sick in any of these areas due to poor sanitation, “said municipal commission­er Ajay Dwivedi.

He said, “We are lifting about 1500 metric tonnes of waste per day from all the 8 zones of the city . Special sanitation drives are being conducted by the LMC every day to keep communicab­le diseases at bay . LMC workers have identified the areas where epidemics like dengue and diarrhoea spread every year. Good sanitation will ensure better health conditions for old city , especially those living in areas like Faizullagn­aj, Yaseen Ganj, Balaganj and cattle colony etc.”

The officials of LMC health department said that they were studying the pattern of epidemic spread in each area and the zonal officers had been told to monitor the cleaning operations daily from 5 am to 9 am.

City health officer Dr SK Rawat said, “We are strictly monitoring the attendance of the sanitation workers and supervisor­s in all 8 zones of the city. The sanitation workers have been provided all support to remain present from early morning for cleaning the lanes and picking of waste from homes. More than 12 outsourcin­g agencies have been fined by the municipal commission­er for not cleaning the areas well. Mayor Sanyukta Bhatia has asked to keep an eye on the places where meat shops are present in narrow lanes. The LMC is preparing the list of such shops so that they can be shifted out of city limits for epidemicfr­ee summers and rainy season.”

The LMC has also prepared a roster for fogging to control the population of mosquitoes in all 8 zones of the city.
