Anti-Terrorism Squad commando unit to be trained by CPMF, army

LUCKNOW : The process has been initiated to select fit and energetic personnel from armed and civil police to form the new team of UP Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) commandos and train them with the help of central paramilita­ry forces (CPMF) and the Indian Army. The move is aimed at increasing the profession­al skills of the force.

The chief minister had earlier asked to complete the selection process within 100 days and ensure advanced training of the commandos after a review meeting on Thursday.

The state government spokesman had stated that the officials were asked to prepare a proposal to coordinate with foreign agencies like the Federal Bureau of Investigat­ion and

Home Land Securities for better and profession­al training of the commandos.

The spokesman said that officials concerned have been asked to conduct sniper training and a special adventure course of the SPOT commandos.

He said that the chief minister stated that there is a need for developmen­t in the field of antidrone attack system and drone forensics, adding that the CM had asked officials to locate land for setting up a commando training centre in Rampur at the earliest.

The spokesman said that the officials have been asked to prepare the Uttar Pradesh Special Police Establishm­ent Act on the lines of the Central Bureau of Investigat­ion. He said the chief minister asked to expedite the process of setting up a state of art police training school in Meerut.

He also said that the chief minister directed setting up teams of women commandos and making efforts to double the figures of women in the police force.

He said the two women battalions of the Provincial Armed Constabula­ry in Badaun and Lucknow should be made functional in the next two years, adding also that officials have been asked to prepare a proposal for setting up new women battalions in Jalaun, Mirzapur and Balrampur.

He said the chief minister has asked to set up a field unit of the special task force (STF) in Ayodhya within 100 days.
