143 students conferred degrees
: The Indian Institute of Information Technology, Lucknow (IIIT-L) awarded B Tech (batches of 2019, 2020, 2021) and M Tech (batch of 2019) degrees to 143 students during its first convocation held at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Scientific Convention Centre, Lucknow, on Saturday.
Students were granted degrees in Bachelor of Technology, Master of Technology, and Post Graduate Diplomas on the recommendations of the academic council of IIIT, Lucknow, said Arun Mohan Sherry, founding director, IIIT, Lucknow.
Despite uncertainties due to the pandemic, the first batch of B Tech and M Tech graduates successfully completed the placement process while still performing admirably in academics, the institute claimed in a release.
Shishir Agarwal MD and senior partner Boston Consulting Group, USA, who was the chief guest, delivered the convocation address while chairman, board of governor, K Sanjay Murthy, joined the convocation virtually. He is a senior IAS officer and secretary, department of higher education, ministry of education, government of India.
In his convocation message, Agarwal congratulated the students on their accomplishments and appreciated their hard work and achievements that have served as an excellent springboard for professional life ahead.
Meanwhile, Murthy joined the convocation virtually to confer the degrees on 143 B Tech and M Tech students.
“For a new institute to reach this height, it takes positive intent and lots of effort,” he said and appreciated the institute for being one of the first in implementing the National Education Policy 2020 which looks to bring major changes in the Indian education system.
Sherry remarked that the institute started with 50 students and one department which has now increased to 586 students in an array of undergraduate and post-graduate programmes in B Tech, PG Diploma, M Tech, MBA, and Ph D.
Gold medallists
Four gold medals to B Tech and M Tech students were awarded for scholastic and all-round performance during the convocation.
There were three awardees from B Tech: Samriddhi Niranjan (2019 Batch) for outstanding scholastic performance, Vikash Tripathi (2020 Batch) for outstanding all-round performance, and Gaurav Singh (2021 Batch) for his superlative performance.
Sankalp Sharma of M Tech (2021 Batch) received a gold medal for his remarkable performance.
Silver medallists
Three silver medals were given to B Tech students Vaibhav Agnihotri (2019 batch), Ayushi Jaiswal (2020 batch), and Abhinav Kumar Srivastava (2021 batch).
Bronze medallists
Three bronze medals were awarded to B Tech students Puja Kumari (2019 batch), Taru Jain (2020 batch), and Satyam Hans (2021 batch).
What medal winners said
Vikash Tripathi felt lucky to acquire admission in IIIT Lucknow. He felt it was the best combination of institutional arrangements that allowed him to get a strong sense of technical knowledge needed to excel in his career. He is now working as an analyst with Goldman Sachs.
Gaurav Singh, got exposure to enough opportunities to be better in academics, leadership, and management. Currently, he is working as a full-time software engineer at TriNet Zenefits.
Vaibhav Agnihotri, a B Tech graduate from the first batch feels proud to be an alumnus of the institute.
Ayushi Jaiswal, from the second batch of BTech, said the key to success is perseverance. In her words “If you don’t get a concept or an algorithm the first time, keep doing it till you get it and you will be there standing next to the people whom you consider experts today.”
Placements
Placements closed with the highest package of ₹1.2 cr per annum (international offers only), the average package of Rs. ₹31.24 LPA (including international offers) and ₹45 lakh per annum (national offers only) with an average package of Rs. ₹26.19 LPA (including National offers only), the institute said in a press release.
