LUCKNOW : The state government will expedite the defence corridor project and will allot more land where there is demand. The government has asked entrepreneurs who have been allotted land in the project to start setting up their units.

The UP Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) has asked the state government to allot 30 acre more land for the Aligarh node of the project. The UPEIDA is the nodal agency of the state government for executing the project.

“The state government is in the process to allot 30 acre more land to the Aligarh node of the defence corridor,” said a senior UPEIDA official. Entire 55.401hectare land earmarked for the Aligarh node has already been allotted to 20 companies that will invest Rs 1245.75 crore.

“The state government’s priority is to start production in the Defence Corridor. We have asked investors who have been allotted land in Defence Corridor to start production at the earliest,” said Durgesh Upadhyay, spokesperson for UPEIDA.

The UPEIDA has also partnered with newly formed Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSU) such as Gliders India Limited and Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited. They will assist the MSMEs in the corridor to become part of the value chain of these DPSUs and support their operations.

The government has decided to ensure time–bound proper rollout of the defence corridor project so that production could start at the earliest in all nodes. The project has six nodes, including Aligarh, Agra, Jhansi, Chitrakoot, Kanpur and Lucknow. “The state is also making all efforts to create infrastructure at all nodes. Various construction activities are under way in the nodes to create industry ready land and provide access to the investors who are setting up their units,” he added.
