IITians show their musical side!
IIT Roorkee alumni showcased their different side as they performed choicest of songs during the two-day Ullas Global Thomaso 175 meet held at Indira Gandhi Pratisthan. Organised by the alumni association, various cultural events along with heritage walks where held besides, the discussion.
Senior IITians mesmerised all with a qawwali. The lyrics were by KK Asthana while the music direction was done by Kamla Kant. Veteran theatre artiste Gopal Sinha, a ’78 batch pass-out conceptualised the musical performance.
Divisional railway manager, Lucknow, Suresh Sapra brought the evening alive by singing old film songs of the ’60 while his wife Neetu Sapra also give a scintillating dance performance.
Members and their families presented dance ballet Hum Fida ye Lucknow which depicted Ganesh Vandana, folk dances Rang and Manra, Sufi dance and a poetic drama presentation Raag Bharat as a tribute to unknown freedom fighters. The presentation was choreographed by Priyanka Mehrotra and conceptualised and directed by Indu Sinha.
Alok Gaur, chief executive officer at a corporate and a 1983 batch engineer, played mouth organ.
Another, the highlight of the event was kissagoi by Himanshu Bajpai who narrated interesting tales of the Nawabs of Lucknow in an anecdotal style. He narrated aam ki dastaan and its connection with nawabs and writers. Bajpai also told some interesting anecdotes related to the city of nawabs and a part of his famous Kakori dastaan. His statement ‘Lakhnavi woh nahi jo Lucknow main rehta hai, Lakhnavi woh hai jiske dil main Lucknow rehta hai’ was loved and appreciated a lot by the guests who had come from different part of the country.
The alumni of IIT Roorkee also enjoyed the Heritage Walk and Lucknow Metro tour to familiarise them with the history of the city. Secretary of the oganisation Ajay Srivastava presented the vote of thanks.
