Soon: Drive against illegal tempos, autos
THE DM HAS DIRECTED THE RTO TO PREPARE A DETAILED PLAN TO STREAMLINE EXISTING PUBLIC TRANSPORT VEHICLES
LUCKNOW: The district administration is all set to push out illegal autos, tempos and buses out of the city limits. Officials said that the initiative was part of a mega anti- encroachment drive launched to streamline traffic. “Illegal autos, tempos and buses add to vehicular load on the road and cause traffic jams. Hence, there is a need to keep a check on the movement of illegal public transport vehicles,” said district magistrate Abhishek Prakash.
The DM has directed the Regional Transport Office (RTO) to prepare a detailed plan not only to streamline the movement of existing public transport vehicles but also to keep a check on illegal vehicles.
As per the RTO records, there are around 2,500 tempos. However, RTO data suggests that an equal number of tempos are plying illegally on city roads. Officials said most of these illegal tempos were from neighbouring districts but plying in the state capital.
Similarly, as per the RTO records, there are around 4,000 legal auto-rickshaws in the city and more than 2000 illegal autos. The scene is no different with the buses.
The DM has ordered the officials to raze the illegal auto stands. Presently, there are around 49 legal stands. The DM has also ordered the officials to ensure that the vehicles stop only at the designated stands and not the road.
The administration has also ordered the removal of encroachments from congested roads. Charbagh Railway station and the nearby areas top the priority list of the district administration in this connection.
