Lucknow paddlers hog limelight

LUCKNOW : Lucknow paddlers hogged the limelight in the UP State Masters Table Tennis Championsh­ips, winning as many as three titles out of seven finals, at the UPTTA Complex here on Sunday.

Rishi Raj Tyagi defeated compatriot Sachin Kumar 11-6, 13-11, 11-8 to win the men’s 40+ title. Rahul Dutt claimed the men’s 60+ title, brushing aside Prayagraj’s Saroj Pandey 11-7, 11-6, 11-8, and Shashi Rastogi bagged the women’s 60+ title, defeating Shalini Goyal 11-7, 6-11, 19-17 and 11-5. The men’s 50+ title went to Vishal Arora, who defeated Lucknow’s DK Purshottam 11-6, 11-5, 11-7. In the men’s 65+ final, Prayagraj’s AK. Srivastava beat citymate Sanjay Munshi 11-6, 11-3, 11-4, and in the men’s 70+ final, Ghaziabagd’s Sunil Saxena beat local challenger MN Khare 11-5, 11-6, 5-11, 5-11, 11-7.

Women’s 50+ title went to Radha Tiwari of Prayagraj, who defeated Sarita Gokarn of Varanasi 9-11, 11-5, 4-11, 11-7, 11-7. Kanpur’s Satish Puri was named best performer in 80+ category.

DISTRICT ATHLETICS

The district athletics championsh­ip for under-20 men and women will be held on May 11, at the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium here. Team selected on the basis of the event, would be participat­ing in the State Championsh­ip, scheduled to be held on may 15 and 16, at the SAI Centre here, states LDAA’s secretary, BR Varun.

JNT TROPHY

The four-day trials under the auspices of the JNT Sports Welfare Foundation came to an end at South Ground in Kanpur on Sunday. The two-day camp will be held on May 13 and 14 at the same venue for the JNT Under-12 Cricket League for Kamdhenu Next Trophy.
