UPSRTC to shed Qaiserbagh’s burden on depots outside city
LUCKNOW: Located in the heart of the city, busy Qaiserbagh bus depot is facing some major issues of traffic mismanagement and congestion these days. To rectify the problem, the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) has decided to restrict the operation of buses coming from several districts here.
As per divisional commissioner Roshan Jacob, certain buses such as those travelling on the routes of Barabanki, Hardoi, Kanpur and Rae Bareli among others, will be restricted to the depots located outside the city instead of entering the Qaiserbagh depot.
UPSRTC regional manager RK Tripathi has been entrusted with the task of creating new alternative routes for the buses which will now be travelling to and from other depots on the outskirts of the city.
“Of the 518 buses that would commute from Qaiserbagh, 110 buses have been diverted to other depots. All 26 buses to Bahraich, and all 28 buses to Barabanki have been diverted among other buses to Gonda, Domariyaganj, and Gorakhpur,” said Tripathi.
Qaiserbagh depot is surrounded by certain public establishments in the area such as the Revenue Council, civil court, DM’s office and several business establishments.
According to the divisional commissioner, this alternative route will help in streamlining traffic.
“Sometimes it takes hours for the traffic jam to get over, and it’s particularly difficult during summers as roads in this area are narrow,” said Akshar Pandey, a bus conductor working at the Qaiserbagh depot.
Following some major changes to be undertaken at Qaiserbagh bus depot, UPSRTC MD Masoom Sarwar conducted inspection at the Awadh bus depot to analyse traffic adjustments to be made here too.
Accompanied by principal manager (operations) of the UPSRTC Ankur Vikas, Sarwar gave strict instructions on how to manage traffic congestions in the area, as it aligns closely with the Kamta intersection, shared the UPSRTC in an X post.
