ASHOK NAGAR/BHOPAL: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday hit out at the Congress, saying it intended to impose inheritance tax, which was like “jizya” (religious tax) levied by Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.

Addressing an election rally at Ashok Nagar in support of BJP candidate from Guna parliamentary constituency and Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Adityanath also accused the

Congress of planning to dilute reservation meant for Scheduled Castes and Other Backward Classes. He alleged the Congress talked of giving freedom to minorities to consume food as per their choice.

Guna, along with eight other constituencies in Madhya Pradesh, goes to polls on May 7 in the third phase of the general elections. The counting of votes will take place on June 4.

ASHOK NAGAR/BHOPAL: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday hit out at the Congress, saying it intended to impose inheritance tax, which was like “jizya” (religious tax) levied by Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.

Addressing an election rally at Ashok Nagar in support of BJP candidate from Guna parliamentary constituency and Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, Adityanath also accused the Congress of planning to dilute reservation meant for SCs and OBCs. He alleged the Congress talked of giving freedom to minorities to consume food as per their choice.

Guna, along with eight other constituencies in Madhya Pradesh, goes to polls on May 7 in the third phase of the general elections. The counting of votes will take place on June 4.

“On one hand, there is Prime Minister Narendra Modi who has a vision for a India, which is secure and commands respect in the entire world, and on the other hand, there is the Congress manifesto,” he said.

“You must have heard the name of Aurangzeb who was the cruelest of all the Mughal emperors. He levied a tax named jizya. Today, Congress also talks of jizya tax in its manifesto. The inheritance tax that the Congress talks about is jizya,” he said.

“Modiji says heritage (virasat) must be respected. It was respect to our heritage that we had been carrying on our struggle for the past 500 years for Ram temple, for which lakhs of Hindus sacrificed their life,” he said.

Lauding the Scindia family, he said, “Our respect to the Scindia family is respect for our “virasat” as this is the family, which had pushed back the Afghan invaders across India’s borders. Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia was at the forefront of the Ram Janmabhoomi movement and it was (due to) her role that the movement could reach its crescendo from zero.”

He said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was talking of conducting an X-ray of people’s properties.

“They will take half of your properties and Rahul Gandhi will say it’s inheritance tax,” he said.

“There will be attempts by Congress to dilute the SC and OBC reservation (“Congress SC, OBC reservation me sendh lagaane ka prayas karegi”). The Congress has made a mention of it in its manifesto. The Congress government in Karnataka and, prior to this, the party’s government in Andhra Pradesh diluted OBC reservation,” he said.

Adityanath also said the Congress intended to give freedom to minorities to consume food as per their choice, if it was voted to power. “Are the food habits of minorities different from that of the majority?” he asked. He said both consumed bread (roti) and rice, but the majority didn’t like consuming beef and opposed it.

Mentioning that people in Uttar Pradesh had resolved to give all 80 Lok Sabha seats in the state to the prime minister to make India a developed and selfreliant country, he said people in Madhya Pradesh, too, should resolve to give all the 29 seats to the BJP in the election. “The process has already begun from Khajuraho and Indore. In Guna, too, there should be a massive victory for the BJP,” he said.

“People in U.P. say their resolve to support the BJP is because Modiji and the BJP government installed Ram Lalla in Ayodhya (Ram Lalla ko virajman kar diya). At the same time, it’s under the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh that the mafia and criminals were sent to “Ram naam satya” (funeral) procession. It’s only the BJP which can accomplish both the works together,” he said.

Praising the leadership of Scindia, Adityanath said, “You are fortunate that you have Jyotiraditya Scindia. He has the vision of development. He has fulfilled the dream of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that even one wearing slippers should be able to travel by air.”

Jyotiraditya Scindia made an appeal to people to ensure a triple engine government: “Modiji as the prime minister, Mohan Yadav as MP CM and myself as an MP here.

“I have heard about corruption growing in the past few years. I will not allow any wrongdoing to take place in the region. All the irregularities will be stopped. Drawing inspiration from Yogi Adityanath, I will ensure that there is a safe and conducive atmosphere in Ashok Nagar, Guna and Shivpuri districts,” he said.
