Deepika Kumari
The world No 12 was born in Ratu Chati, 15 km from Ranchi. Deepika was scouted by former Jharkhand CM Arjun Munda’s wife Meera who had an academy in Kharsawan. From there she went to the Tata Archery Academy in Jamshedpur.
L Bombayla Devi
She is named Bombayla as she was born in Bombay. She is currently ranked 70. She is the first Manipuri to win the nationals. Her mother M Jamini Devi is an archery coach and her father Manglem Singh is the state handball coach.
Laxmi Rani Majhi
The daughter of a coal mine worker, Majhi has been in the archery circuit for some time. She is 15 in world rankings. Majhi was scouted by national coach Dharmendra Tiwari during one of the federation’s initiatives.
Atanu Das
He is ranked 22 but has pipped world No 15 Jayanta Talukdar and Olympic berth winner Mangal Singh Champia in the trials. A former Tata Archery Academy cadet, Atanu is now employed by the Petroleum Sports Promotion Board. He hails from Baranagar, the same area where Dola Banerjee lives.
