‘We are working to block online ads promoting pre-natal sex determination’
NEW DELHI: The Centre informed the Supreme Court on Monday that it is taking steps to block advertisements promoting prenatal sex determination kits on search engines such as Google, Yahoo and Microsoft.
Solicitor General Ranjit Kumar said a meeting with all the stakeholders, including the petitioner before the SC who has demanded pulling down of the promos, took place pursuant to the court’s earlier direction and considerable progress has been made.
“One meeting has already been held while a second meeting is scheduled for tomorrow. We have made considerable progress and soon a decision with regard to the steps to be taken on the issue,” the solicitor said. The bench will now hear the matter on August 9.
The court had pulled up the online search engines earlier this month for failing to check advertisements on pre-natal sex determination tests and kits, sale of which is not allowed as per law. HTC
