KOLKATA: Over 48 hours after the death of a 17-year-old in a parking lot of a posh residential apartment in Kolkata, the mystery around the incident continued on Monday.

Though Kolkata Police kept all options open, a section of them were veering to the accident theory, maintaining the boy fell on broken bottle that sliced an artery below the arm, resulting in his death.

However, as the post-mortem report was still awaited, police couldn’t say anything on record.

“We have recorded statements of the six friends who were with Aabesh. They claimed it was an accident but there are discrepancies in their statements,” said an investigating officer.

All the seven, who entered the building premises including the daughter of writer Amit Chaudhuri, are minors.

Police have learnt that on Saturday around 17 teenagers visited a private club on Anwar Shah Road in south Kolkata where they consumed alcohol to celebrate Chaudhuri’s daughter’s birthday. Seven of them then came to Sunny Towers, where the birthday girl stays, and continued the celebrations. However, it was not clear why they chose to remain at the parking lot and avoided entering the apartment of the Chaudhuris. “Injuries on his left armpit suggest that he may have tripped. He was probably carrying a beer bottle under the arm,” said another investigating officer. The guards at the building told investigators that they heard a brawl in the parking lot and by the time they reached the spot, Aabesh was lying there in a pool of blood.
