COW VIGILANTES LAW UNTO THEMSELVES

-

Apropos the editorial ‘Vigilantes have no role here’ (July 25), in Gujarat, dust is yet to settle on the Patels’ reservation stir but chief minister Anandiben now faces Dalit protests against cow protectors. The trigger was the public flogging of four Dalits who skinned dead cows, which is their profession. In Dadri, Uttar Pradesh, we have half-a-dozen cow vigilantes to threaten people who work in tanneries. What if the Dalits refuse to lift the carcasses or supply the tanneries with animal skin? Will the cow vigilantes dirty their hands?
