COURT CONVICTS RSPL, 3 OFFICIALS IN COAL SCAM

NEW DELHI: A special court on Tuesday convicted Rathi Steel and Power Ltd (RSPL) and its three officials in a case pertaining to irregulari­ties in allocation of Kesla North coal block in Chhattisga­rh to the firm. Special CBI judge Bharat Parashar held the firm and its officials -- MD Pradeep Rathi, CEO Udit Rathi and AGM Kushal Aggarwal -guilty of offences including cheating (section 420) and criminal conspiracy (section 120-B) of the IPC. Will walk out of NDA if taken for granted: Uddhav MUMBAI: A day before his 56th birthday, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray said that his party will walk out of the NDA alliance if it is taken for granted. Thackeray also slammed ally BJP, saying that the 25 years that the two were in alliance for, were a ‘waste of time’. If not for those years, Thackeray said, the Sena would’ve come to power on its own in the state sooner. Thackeray made the remarks in the third part of his interview published in the party mouthpiece ‘Saamna.’ CBI nabs two top officials for chit-fund scam NEW DELHI: The CBI has arrested two top officials of an Odisha-based group of firms that are accused of duping investors to the tune of over Rs 16 crore via fraudulent investment schemes. The CBI arrested Midas Touch Group of Companies’ MD Soubhagya Kumar Samal and director Nirupama at Vadodara in Gujarat as part of its Supreme Court ordered chitfund scam probe. Dayashanka­r’s wife Swati hospitalis­ed LUCKNOW: Expelled BJP leader Dayashanka­r Singh’s wife Swati Singh, who has taken up cudgels against BSP leaders for their derogatory comments against her daughter and family members, was today admitted to a city hospital after she complained of uneasiness. “Swati was admitted to a private hospital here this morning with high fever, problem of chest congestion and diarrhoea. Her condition is improving,” a family member said. Following his derogatory comments against Mayawati, BJP expelled Dayashanka­r on July 20.
