KANPUR: Dilpreet Kaur, 14, is the worthy daughter of worthy parents.

While her father Manjit Singh and mother Simran Kaur are engaged in promoting mathematical and calculation skills among children, Dilpreet has broken four world records in two years to enter Limca Book of Records.

However, neither the Uttar Pradesh government nor the central government has recognised her calculation skills and worked to promote her talent.

The management of Huddard High School, Kanpur, where she is studying in class 9, has given her a scholarship of `18,000 per annum. However, no government has announced any scholarship for her.

In 2015, Dilpreet entered Limca Book of Records by dividing four-digit numbers by two-digit numbers in 96 seconds, thereby breaking the world record of 110 seconds.

This year, she again broke the world record by adding up 100 numbers in 16 seconds. The earlier record was of 19 seconds. Her name has been selected for Limca Book of Records and would be included in its 2017 edition.

Dilpreet again displayed her talent this year by adding 750 numbers in three minutes. She also set a record of solving five questions of dividing four-digit numbers by two-digit numbers in 10 seconds. The previous world record was of 13 seconds.

Dilpreet did all these calculations on the spot just by using her mind power and was given the title of a ‘calculator girl’. She was also given the “Proud of Sikh Award” in 2015 by a Baru Sahib-based international Sikh organisation in Himachal Pradesh.

Dilpreet said her parents trained her in the art of calculations since she was seven and added she used Chinese system of Abacus to sharpen her skills.

“The system has not only improved my mathematical skills but has also helped me learn other subjects easily and quickly,” she said.

Her parents, Manjit Singh and Simran Kaur, train children of various schools in the art of calculation. So far, 50 students trained by them have set state-level records at the competitions organised by private companies.
